אנו מאמינות כי למידה הדדית, בין תחומית ובלתי היררכית היא פעולה פמיניסטית מעצימה וכי הדיון, והספר אשר יבשיל ממנו, יאתגר  את אופן החשיבה המסורתי על הנושא.

סדנת המחקר "עבודה מפרספקטיבות פמיניסטיות" תמשך שנתיים. מפגשי השנה הראשונה יוקדשו לקריאת טקסטים קלאסיים ועכשווים בנושא "עבודה" מתוך הפרספקטיבות הפמיניסטיות ולראשיתו של דיון בעבודות של שותפי ושותפות הסדנא. המפגשים בשנה השנייה יעסקו בדיון בעבודות של חברי וחברות הקבוצה.

בספרו החדש אורי רם דן בשאלת ה"לאומיות הישראלית" – ישות בכוח שעשויה להתפתח מן הישות בפועל "הלאומיות היהודית". הספר חוקר את שאלות הדמות התרבותית, הישות החברתית והזהות הפוליטית, בישראל מזווית הראייה הייחודית של הפוליטיקה של הידע, החוקרת את האופן שבו מובנים מושגי היסוד של קהילה פוליטית. זאת, תוך התמקדות בשלושה שיחי ידע – שיח ההיסטוריה, שיח הסוציולוגיה ושיח הפוליטיקה. אלה מגדירים את שלושת שערי הספר, כאשר בתוך כל שער שני פרקים המהווים צמד ניגודים, שביניהם מתקיים עימות דיסקורסיבי: פרק העוסק בידע הממסדי בתחום, ופרק העוסק בידע הביקורתי בתחום. כך הפרק הראשון עוסק בהבניית הסיפר הלאומי המאחד והפרק השני בפרימתו של סיפר זה על ידי "היסטוריות חדשות" של "אחרים"; הפרק השלישי עוסק בהבניית מושג "החברה הישראלית" ההומוגנית על ידי הסוציולוגיה הממסדית, והפרק הרביעי עוסק בהנכחה על ידי הסוציולוגיה הביקורתית לזרמיה של ריבוי הפנים והניגודים המרכיבים חברה זו; הפרק החמישי עוסק בהדרת הפלסטינים מהגדרת הזהות הלאומית באמצעות "משטר השכחה" (והכחשה) והפרק השישי עוסק בשיח החלופי הפוסט-ציוני המגלם הכלה של הפלסטינים בהגדרה לאומית אזרחית של מדינת ישראל. זהו ספר ראשון מסוגו באנגלית הדן בלאומיות הישראלית דרך המנסרה של ההבניה והפרוק של השיח והידע אודותיה. בספר מוצעת סינתזה כוללת של עבודות רבות משל המחבר שפורסמו בשנים האחרונות. אורי רם הוא פרופסור וראש המחלקה לסוציולוגיה ואנתרופולוגיה באוניברסיטת בן גוריון בנגב.

This edited volume explores the theoretical and practical implications of war and terror situations for citizenship in democratic states.

Citizenship is a key concept in Western political thought for defining the individual’s relations with society. The specific nature of these rights, duties and contributions, as well the relations between them, are determined by the citizenship discourses that prevail in each society.

In wartime, including low-intensity wars, democratic societies face different challenges than the ones facing them during peacetime, in areas such as human rights, the status of minorities, the state’s obligations to its citizens, and the meaning of social solidarity. War situations can affect not only the scope of citizenship as an institution, but also the relations between the prevailing discourses of citizenship and between different groups of citizens. Since 9/11 and the declaration of the 'war on terror', many democracies have been grappling with issues rising out of the interface between citizenship and war. This volume examines the effects of war on various aspects of citizenship practice, including: immigration and naturalization, the welfare state, individual liberties, gender relations, multiculturalism, social solidarity, and state – civil society relations.

The combat experience of Israel’s ground forces in the second Palestinian uprising, the Al-Aqsa Intifada (2000–2006), is given full critical attention in this engaging study. Based on extensive interviews and observations, Rethinking Contemporary Warfare explores the ongoing debate about how the armed forces of industrial democracies wage contemporary military operations. Irregular warfare presents challenges, as routine activities can suddenly turn into violent action, forcing military forces to quickly adapt under the changing circumstances of the conflict. Such “new wars” are a messy reality consisting of high and low intensity conflict, the involvement of media and human rights movements, and the martial administration of civilian populations. Exploring the broad social and organizational features of these militaries, this volume sets forth new analytical tools to understand the peculiarities of irregular warfare in the post-Cold War era.
